PRESS RELEASE

Global Shading Day stresses vital importance of solar shading

Harol takes part in Global Shading Day 2024

Diest, March 2024 – On Thursday 21 March, we are not only welcoming the start of spring, but also celebrating Global Shading Day: a day on which the positive benefits of solar shading take centre-stage. Solar shading expert Harol is also taking part in this special day this year. Together with ES-SO, the umbrella organisation for the European Solar Shading industry, Harol is focussing on both consumers and policy-makers in order to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of solar shading in terms of living comfort, energy savings, and a positive impact on the environment.

Second edition of Global Shading Day
In the week of 21 March, local authorities and solar shading manufacturers and distributors across the whole of Europe will be holding various events and activities to highlight Global Shading Day. Harol is drawing attention to this day through a social media campaign and the sun screen expert is calling on its dealers to participate by joining the online campaign, keeping showrooms open for longer on 21 March and handing out special Global Shading Day flyers to customers.

Global Shading Day was created to focus attention on the important role of solar shading in the fight against global climate change. And it is much needed. Scientific research from Guidehouse has shown that buildings can stay 5 to 10 degrees cooler in the summer months as a result of using smart solar shading. Installing solar shading instead of using active cooling systems, such as air conditioning, could allow us to save 60% in energy and reduce CO2 emissions by 100 million tonnes by 2050.

We believe in natural cooling
“At Harol, we stand firmly behind the many benefits of the natural cooling provided by solar shading. “It is no coincidence that our tagline is: ‘We believe in natural cooling’,” says Isabelle Wintmolders, Marketing Manager of Harol and Chair MarCom of ES-SO. “Over the past few years, the problem of overheated homes has become an increasing problem. Energy-hungry air conditioning systems are often used to tackle the heat. But, we wish to bring about change in this context. Passive cooling, using sun canopies and similar, is much more energy-efficient. Solar shading keeps the heat out before it can enter the building, providing a natural approach to keeping a home cool. We will continue to focus on communicating this message to the public at large. It would be a logical step to integrate solar shading in the construction of buildings and, in turn, provide a sustainable contribution to protecting the environment. Global Shading Day is a fantastic initiative to draw attention to the importance of solar shading.”
